Minnesota’s Infrastructure Union Commends State Senate for Passing Needed Permitting Reform

April 18, 2024

Saint Paul, MN Today, LIUNA Minnesota and North Dakota President and Business Manager Joel Smith issued the following statement in response to the Minnesota State Senate passing needed permitting reform:

“LIUNA Laborers strongly support significant reforms to Minnesota’s energy infrastructure permitting process to help us meet growing demand for carbon-free electricity, while improving efficiency and transparency.

These projects create thousands of jobs for Minnesotans, and in Greater Minnesota, projects are the lifeblood of communities. LIUNA members are ready to put in the work. We call on the Minnesota House to get it done.”

This legislation, which was the product of a stakeholder process initiated by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, will enhance Minnesota’s permitting and environmental review programs to protect our air, water, land and public health while producing timely, reliable and fair reviews of job-creating projects for Minnesota workers and communities.
