LIUNA Minnesota & North Dakota supports increased investment in vital community infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals. Research shows that schools and hospitals greatly influence local economies’ ability to function and grow and have the potential to create jobs, boost productivity, support business growth, provide a healthier environment, and improve opportunities for all of their residents.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than half of America’s public schools need $380 billion to be repaired, renovated, or modernized. Carefully targeted initiatives to maintain and improve community infrastructure will boost Minnesota & North Dakota’s long-term productivity, resulting in more economic growth and higher-wage jobs. It makes sense for the government at all levels to make these investments, because when an investment’s benefits are so spread out over time and place that it is not feasible to profit from them, the private sector cannot be relied upon to make those investments.
